This task was to quickly sketch up several logo's for a company called Smile. I had to design logo's for an outdoor clothing range, and for a children's toy collection, both of which had different appeals and different audiences to promote to, which I had to take into mind.
For the Outdoor Clothing Range I took into concept who would be buying the products, as well as what they would be doing whilst wearing them. I focused on simple shapes, that reflected nature such as triangles and elements such as water drops and clouds. I also considered whether the type would be in upper case, lower case or a mixture of the both. Shapes such as triangles represent mountains or tents, and these are things that are typically seen on an outdoor activity. I also tried playing with the type, making the M into two mountain peaks in the middle of the word, and playing with the layout of the type, ie diagonal, vertical etc.
Children's Toy Collection
This one was a bit more difficult than the Outdoor Clothing Range, mainly because I had to appeal to both parents and children to promote the toys and therefore promote sales. I looked at some typical toy shapes, such as building blocks, balls and jigsaws, as well as looking at simple shapes of circles and squares. I do not want the design to be too complicated if it is appealing to small children, and instead want it to be quite simple so that they recognise it and understand it. I decided for a logo aimed at children lower caps lettering is a lot more appealing and flattering, as upper caps could seem too aggressive, as well as them being taught lower caps letters first, they would find it easier to understand.
